Children’s key word sign is an Alternative and Augmentative (AAC) communication tool. It uses signs (borrowed from Auslan), gestures and facial expressions alongside speech to provide children with a communication tool while they are non verbal or have unclear speech. Research has shown benefits to children that have communication difficulties, neurotypical children and babies.

 

The research has repeatedly found that children and adults will often sign back iconic signs first as they are easier to understand, therefore if there are most that one sign available for the word, Sunshine Sign and Sing will alway select the most iconic sign (to keep inline with the research in the area).
