These downloadable A4 ‘What’s Wrong’ Communication Boards provides you with both the symbol board and associated key word signs on the other side. The Boards include a QR code that takes you to the video tutorials of the signs.

These boards were designed with assistance of Occupational Therapists and Speech Pathologists to identify common reasons your child may be emotionally dysregulated. This communication board will assist your child to non verbally communicate some of the reasons that they are dysregulated.

One side provides the AAC symbols and other other provides the key word signs. The Communication Board contains the following symbols and signs:

Hot (feeling), Cold, Sick, Pain, Difficult, Easy, Hungry, Thirsty, Scared, Loud, Bright, Uncomfortable, Toilet, Lost, Miss, Mum, Dad, Mean, Confused, Bored, Lonely, Tired, Need a Break and Hug.

 

It is recommended that you also purchase the feelings and ‘what can I do’ communication boards that provides the children with a tool kit to provide them with activities that may assist them regulate.

Key word sign is an augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) tool that provides children that are pre speaking the ability to communicate through signs (kindly borrowed from Auslan, Australian Sign Language), gestures and facial expressions. When key word sign is used by communication partners they must always speak when they sign, only signing the key words of a sentence, to model both spoken language and sign at the same time.

These Communication Boards have been created to promote the use of key word sign during fun activities that are often undertaken by children at home, at early learning services or at school.
