Children’s key word sign is an Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) tool for children that are pre speaking / pre verbal / non speaking. Gestures, signs (kindly borrowed from Auslan) and body language are used alongside speech, with only key words being signed. It allows children an alternative method of communication before speech or when they are unable to speak (for example selective / situational mutism).
