Key word sign, also known as children’s key word sign, serves as an alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) tool. It encourages speech while offering pre-verbal / pre-speaking or non-verbal / non-speaking children an effective means of communication. Key word sign can also benefit children with communication difficulties such as unclear speech, selective/situational mutism, or anxiety, helping them convey their needs and thoughts to others.

Key word sign combines signs borrowed from Australian Sign Language (Auslan) with gestures and facial expressions, enriching communication and enhancing comprehension for all involved.
