This Children’s key word signing poster has been designed for classrooms, Occupational Therapist centres, Speech Pathologist centres, or anywhere there are for children. Designed with All About Autism on the Sunshine Coast.

 

Designed with specialists that work closely with neurodiverse children (not ABA) the signs have been selected that will be useful for a classroom setting.

 

Children’s key word signing is an unaided AAC (alternative and augmentative communication) tool, it is an excellent tool for those that are having difficulty with speech for whatever reason and their communication partners. Children’s key word signing is often used with autistic children, dyspraxia, downs syndrome, neurotypical children with a speech delay, those with anxiety.

 

The key word signs that are included are:

 

yes, no, good, bad, calm, breathe, quiet, sit, play, turn, again, share, kind, help, friend, sorry, wait, stop, more finished, say, think, toilet, name.

 

Children’s key word sign uses signs alongside speech in simplified sentences to encourage communication through both sign and speech. Research has shown that CKWS encourages verbal speech while allowing the child an alternative method of communication.

 

Children’s key word sign uses signs borrowed from Auslan (Australian sign language) however it is not Auslan, Auslan has its own grammar, structure and Deaf Community associated with it.
